You need a drawer slide if you have a drawer supporting heavy weights that needs to open and close smoothly. The drawer slide will need to be fixed to both the drawer and the carcass of the drawer unit. They are manufactured with ball bearings to ensure a smooth and quiet operation.
Before selecting your Drawer slide you need to consider a few things – including:
- The extension or travel of the drawer. IE: how far out it needs to come.
- The load.
- The length of the slide when fully closed.
- Will the drawer need removing completely?
- The available space – between the drawer and the carcass.
An excellent general purpose slide is the heavy duty 250 kg fully locking slide, manufactured in cold rolled steel which offers full extension and high load bearing capabilities. These are supplied in pairs, in interchangeable locking or non locking formats. They are available in various lengths from 10″ ( 254mm) to 60″ (1,524mm), with load capabilities corresponding from 55lbs per pair (250kg) to 396lbs (180kg).

You may need a linear rail if you have a sliding panels or doors, movable seating, or machine guarding.
